$13,985

More Information

1968 Paco Rabanne gold and bronze metallic chainmail mini dress. Sleeveless square neck mini dress composed entirely of interlocking gold and bronze-tone chainmail links. Could be styled as long top as desired. Features large gold-tone oval plate at back. Connects with gold hook closures. In very good vintage condition with light wear throughout consistent with age, one missing gold hook closure at back and missing jump ring closure at strap. Missing brand tag but highly attributable to Paco Rabanne, who rarely utilized brand labeling at this time due to semi-sheer nature of chainmail.

An extremely rare and covetable piece: this collection was the first time that 'Chainmail' / Metal Disc Dresses were introduced in fashion. According to BBC News, Paco Rabanne's background in architecture culminated in his understanding of materials, structure, and form, which he then applied to his iconic fashion designs. His innovative creations challenged traditional notions of fashion and helped define the futuristic and mod aesthetic of the 1960s.
