S/S 2006 Maison Martin Margiela gray floral pattern three-piece linen set. Deconstructed tunic top, skirt and pant set with gray and white screen printed floral pattern throughout. Top is deconstructed asymmetrical 'cowl' neckline with open back and single tan elasticized back strap (deconstructed to appear like external bra strap). Above-knee skirt features contrasting white silk chiffon trim that partially covers the waist and hemline, with deliberate loose silk chiffon at waist and hemline to imply the skirt is coming 'undone' or is unfinished. Concealed side zip closure. Can be styled with mid-rise trouser with functional side slit pockets. In very good vintage condition with faint spots throughout pant (very faintly noticeable when worn).
Rare pattern as featured on the runway (Look 4 and Look 5). During the runway show, models were wheeled by technicians on silver podiums: a minimalistic, high fashion 'camera dolly' effect. Vogue Runway describes that the collection began "in Margiela’s head as an idea about 'dissolving' the structure of clothing. Every outfit came with one side finished and the other melting off into raw fabric. A couple of dresses still had bolts of fabric attached." Martin Margiela emphasizes the process of creating the pieces with this runway, highlighted in the deconstructed, almost 'melting' silhouette of this set.
